Starbucks is Opening its First Signing Store in Washington,
DC in October!
They first opened a signing store in Malaysia in 2016,
training deaf employees and teaching existing employees ASL.
In this new store all employees will be Deaf,
hard-of-hearing, or fluent in ASL. The store itself will be decorated with art
by deaf artists, and the baristas’ aprons will have ‘Starbucks’ finger spelled
above the normal logo, as well as “I Sign” pins! I am already planning to shop
by the store when it opens to buy myself one of those pins!
The store will be by Gallaudet University, on the corner of 6th
Ave and H St.
Many think this will be the beginning of more ASL friendly
stores across the US, what do you think? What drink will you order on your
first trip to this ground breaking new store?
