We all know babies cry and wail, but it takes a practiced
ear to hear the difference between all the cries and decipher them to know what
the tiny human wants. But what about when they are in different countries?
Could you put a baby from America in a room with one from France and they’d
talk baby all day long? Or would their specific cries just confuse the other?
We know that babies hear music in the womb, and we talk to
them. Does that mean they hear the intonations of our voice, our language, and
try to copy it after they are born?
Well, Dr. Kathleen Wermke in the German university town of
Würzburg has set out to enlighten us! She has completed a study on the language
of babies.
